Jason Gwen

JASON GWEN, 33, is a Dutch-Vietnamese Film Actor, Musician & Cross Media Producer.


After wrapping up the Performer/Dancer &Maker’s program at the Artez University of the Arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands in 2010, Jason has continuously worked between film projects, creating his own electronics/hip hop sound, and developed concepts, in new ways of showing performances, across all media.



Jason started his film career at the age of 20 with a supporting part in the feature film SKIN by Hanro Smitsman, opposite Robert de Hoog. In the same week of shooting his debut, he also started with his classes at the Academy. After wrapping up the program, he went on to work for theatre companies like Dries Verhoeven (Utrecht), Sander Breure &Witte van Hulzen (Amsterdam), T.R.A.S.H (Tilburg), United Cowboys (Eindhoven), Scapino Ballet (Rotterdam) &Das Letzte Kleinod (Hamburg).



As an actor, he had his first leading role of Wang, in the feature film ATARAXIA, that went in premiere at the Netherlands Film Festival in 2013. And recently in a supporting role of Jing Sheng in the Dutch/Belgian TV-Series GRENSLANDERS produced by Eyeworks Belgium in 2019. Now streaming on Amazon Prime. In 2021 he can also be seen in a recurring role of Mr. X on the mockumentary tv-series UNDERGROUND STREET BOYZ on Open Rotterdam, and will make his first appearance on HET KLOKHUIS on NPO -the children’s version of and alike Saturday Night Live.



In 2017 he made a shift from an independent maker, to working from a Foundation. As of 2021, he is now the Head Producer of Foundation ARNHEMS Work, with a fresh transparent board. The first grants he received were from the Municipality of Arnhem &Amsterdam, Funds for the Arts. The foundation focus on the FAIR PRACTICE CODE & Implements CODE DIVERSITY heavily, with an emphasis on women and a color conscious casting process.



In that same season, he entered the music scene with a debut at, and thanks to Milkshake Festival &Paradiso. Since then, he has played on stages at Amsterdam Dance Event x Sexyland, Dutch Design Week Music x Plasma, Valtifest, Booster, and on the Mainstage Dam Square at Pride Amsterdam.



During the closing of the Biennale di Venezia 2019, Jason had shown his latest work, a live video-performance titled CHANGE at the Personal Structures program, at the European Cultural Centre. A work on homelessness and modern trade markets. Next to the work of Marina Abramovic and Yoko Ono. This season he will be presenting PLAYERS -an in public performance that reminds people of all wearing masks, and silently following the governments dictatorship.
